The 2013 Toyota Highlander is a midsize SUV that is easy to drive and offers a spacious interior and progressive safety technologies. For 2013, a new Highlander Plus model grade replaces the former Tech Package and adds numerous features including a rearview camera. The 2013 Toyota Highlander can seat up to seven in three rows, and competes on the market with Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot and Chevrolet Traverse.
The 2013 Toyota Highlander is offered in four trim levels: base, Plus, SE and Limited. The Highlander Hybrid is considered a distinct model. The 2013 Toyota Highlander base comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, an eight-way adjustable driver seat, cloth upholstery, rear privacy glass, air-conditioning, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, a 50/50-split-folding third-row seat, a 40/20/40-split folding second-row seat, Bluetooth connectivity and a six-speaker sound system with USB/iPod interface and a CD player.
The new 2013 Highlander Plus adds roof rails, foglights, a lift-up rear window, extendable visors with vanity mirrors, a rearview camera, driver seat power lumbar support and a cargo area privacy cover. The SE adds leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a sunroof, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and heated front seats.
The Highlander Limited adds 19-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors, keyless ignition, keyless entry, additional chrome exterior trim, perforated leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control, a navigation system and a nine-speaker JBL sound system.
The 2013 Toyota Highlander base and Plus models come standard with a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder DOHC engine with Dual Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) that produces 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque. The front-wheel drive is standard for this engine. This engine is paired with a 6-speed Electronically Controlled automatic transmission with intelligence (ECT-i).
Standard on the SE and Limited and optional for the base and Plus is a 3.5-liter V6 DOHC engine with VVT-i that produces 270 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel drive is standard while all-wheel drive is optional.
Standard safety features of 2013 Toyota Highlander include side-impact airbags for the front seats, antilock brakes, driver’s knee airbag, side curtain airbags, electronic stability system, active front head restraints, hill-start assist and hill-descent control.
