The 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage is an all-new model and also it is the cheapest and smallest vehicle that Japanese automaker sells in the U.S. The new Mirage is a four-door hatchback subcompact car that is built in Thailand and comes with an impressive list of standard and optional features and with an impressive fuel economy (the highest EPA fuel-efficiency rating of any non-hybrid car sold in the U.S.). The 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage competes with Fiat 500, Scion iQ, Honda Fit, Ford Fiesta, and Mazda2.
The 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage is offered in DE and ES trim levels. The Mirage DE comes standard with halogen headlights, rear spoiler, color-keyed front and rear bumpers, rear intermittent wiper, power mirrors, 14-inch steel wheels with steel cover, 4-way adjustable driver’s and front passenger seats, split folding high-back rear seat, automatic climate control with micron air filtration, tilt steering wheel and cargo light. An 140-watt 4-speaker audio system with CD player and USB port, keyless entry, power windows and 12-volt accessory outlet are all standard also.
The ES model adds fog lights, 14-inch alloy wheels, 6-way adjustable driver’s and front passenger seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, silver shift panel, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, steering wheel mounted audio controls, a rearview camera and push button start. A MMES navigation system is available as an option.
Standard safety features of the 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), brake assist, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Active Stability Control (ASC), Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), advanced dual-stage front airbags with occupant seat position sensor and 7 standard airbags (including driver knee airbag). An Hill Start Assist (HSA) system is available as an option.
The 2014 Mitsubishi Mirage is powered by a 1.2-liter MIVEC DOHC 12-valve Inline 3-cylinder engine that produces 74 hp and 74 lb-ft of torque. This engine is coupled to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The fuel economy is indeed impressive: 37 mpg city/ 44 mpg highway with CVT. With the manual transmission EPA estimates are 34 mpg city and 42 mpg highway.
