The 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse is a four-seat, two door sport coupe car with nice exterior and a functional interior. A special edition SE is new for 2012. This sports car is offered in coupe and convertible (Spyder) forms. All models are front-wheel drive and share basic platform with Mitsubishi Galant sedan. Introduced more than 20 years ago, the Mitsubishi Eclipse will not longer be produced after 2012. Competitors of Mitsubishi Eclipse include the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, Honda Civic Si and Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
The 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse entry-level GS model comes with 18-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, variable intermittent wipers, keyless entry, a tilt-only steering wheel, full power accesories and a six-speaker CD sound system with an auxiliary audio input jack. The GS Sport adds foglights, xenon headlights, a sunroof, a rear wiper, heated power mirrors, heated front seats, leather upholstery and a nine-speaker sound system with six-CD changer and steering wheel controls.
The new 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse SE model gets all GS Sport features plus black mirrors, dark gray alloy wheels and more special styling details. The Eclipse GT adds a standard V6 engine, automatic climate control, sport-tuned suspension and bigger rear brakes.
The 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse Coupe features a precision-tuned 4-wheel independent suspension, a chassis with excellent structural rigidity and the convenience of a 2+2 seating arrangement with 50:50 split-folding rear seat backs for enhanced cargo capability, making it an ideal sports car for everyday use in the real world.
The 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS, GS Sport and SE models are powered by the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder SOHC MIVEC 16-valve engine that produces 162 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. The GS model is equipped standard with a 5-speed manual transmission with an optional 4-speed automatic. The GS Sport and SE models come exclusively with the 4-speed automatic transmission. EPA estimated fuel economy for 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse with 2.4-liter engine is 20 mpg city/ 28 mpg highway.
The 2012 Eclipse GT comes with an 3.8-liter V-6 SOHC MIVEC 24-valve engine that produces 265 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. A five-speed automatic Sportronic transmission is standard. The estimated fuel economy of this engine is 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.
Standard safety features of 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse include an advanced dual front airbag, supplemental restraint system (SRS), side airbags, side curtain airbags, 4-wheel disc anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Active Stability Control (ASC) and Traction Control Logic (TCL).
